The Office of the District Attorney is:
The legal branch of local government representing the Clark County Commission and other county agencies in administrative and litigation matters. The Criminal Division of the office prosecutes all felony crimes and many misdemeanors occurring within the County. Extensive services for victims of crime and witnesses are provided through the Victim-Witness Assistance Center. Last year, the office filed more than 22,420 felony cases and 32,678 misdemeanor charges against defendants for crimes ranging from petit larceny to murder. Such cases are aggressively prosecuted by 75 deputy district attorneys appearing regularly in 30 judicial forums.
Steven Wolfson, is the district attorney for Clark County. The assistant district attorney for criminal justice functions is Christopher J. Lalli.
The Juvenile Division processes criminal matters concerning juveniles, prosecuting approximately 6,000 cases per year. Teresa Lowry supervises the activities of this unit, which is located in the Family Court building.
The Family Support Division establishes and enforces child support court orders. Approximately 270 employees, including 12 attorneys, are actively involved in this process. The Division is under the direction of Assistant District Attorney Teresa Lowry and Assistant Director Jeff Witthun. In 2010, more than $80 million was collected on behalf of children in Clark County. Sixty-six percent of the funding for this division is paid by the federal government.
Family Support is now co-located with the child support courts and the State Collections & Disbursement Unit at The Child Support Center of Southern Nevada (1900 E. Flamingo Road). Employment Assistance, Access & Visitation/Mediation and a certified social worker are also on site.
Mary-Anne Miller, County Counsel supervises the Civil Division, which handles civil lawsuits and advises County departments on administrative law matters.
