Park Police

Bike Patrol

Park Police Bike Patrol was started as an effort to get officers out of their vehicles and closer to the citizens. Bike officers have become standard sightings at our parks and events. They have closer interactions with visitors in the parks, patrol special events, and manage traffic enforcement at larger parks.

Creating and maintaining an effective police bike patrol takes more than just officers and bikes. A police bike program involves proper training for varying conditions of activity, traffic, and weather. There are also the issues of contact with suspects, interview techniques, crowd control, and quick response to crimes in progress.

Not all of these duties are suspect oriented — they are also people oriented. Kids especially like to get up close and personal and build a rapport with the officers, learning about their jobs, how to be safe yet still have fun.
