Downloadable Free GIS Data

Data sharing is central to the success of GIS in Southern Nevada. There are four methods in which the GIS Management Office (GISMO) provides data. The first, GIS Interlocal Agreements, is only available to local governmental agencies. The other three methods are available to public citizens and private companies: GIS Data Subscriptions, the sale of GIS Data Products and the options listed on this page which are characterized as Downloadable GIS Data Sets.

Characteristics of private individuals and/or companies who may be interested in Downloadable GIS Data Sets include:

  • Those who do not qualify as a local government and, therefore, cannot become a GIS Interlocal Participant.
  • Those who do not need access to all of the data offered through the GIS Data Subscription and/or cannot justify the cost based on the benefit to their particular organization.
  • Those desiring methods of support for basic GIS activities, including geocoding addresses and creating small-scale mapping products.

Downloadable Free GIS Data Sets are provided in 3 formats: native Arc/Info Coverage and ESRI shapefiles and GeoDatabase. In any case, the appropriate directory structures are compressed into one file using WinZip.

For those familiar with using FTP, connect to ftp://mapsrv.co.clark.nv.us/pub/ to access all files within that directory.  For retrieval using a web browser, enter the above address in your browser, then simply drag and drop, or copy and paste the desired data.  Please note that folders contain both the shape files (fileName-shp.zip), and the native Arc/Info coverages (fileName-src.zip) so you may wish to only retrieve the files you want rather than the entire folder/directory.

For those who are unable to effectively download these data sets, GISMO can provide the data on CD for $35 per CD (approx. 700MB) as required for each CD needed to fill the request.  Please contact our office at (702) 455-3855 to place your request.
