RESERVE INVESTIGATOR ACADEMY

RESERVE INVESTIGATOR

Reserves are volunteers who aid/assist the full-time investigative staff in conducting medicolegal death investigations. Upon successful completion of the Reserve Investigator Academy, students are eligible to apply for a limited number of Reserve Investigator positions. These Reserve Investigators are scheduled on a bi-monthly basis responding to death scene investigations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Investigators work with exposure to dead bodies in various stages of decomposition, infectious and contagious diseases, noxious fumes and hazardous chemicals or materials. Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Work in all weather conditions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS

 

  • Must be 21 years or older. Must submit to a criminal background check.
  • Applicants must have no felony convictions.
  • Must provide two references (non-relative) attesting to applicant’s integrity/suitability for this position.
  • Must successfully complete initial interview.
  • Must demonstrate a sincere interest in medicolegal death investigations versus mere curiosity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS

  • Proven ability in dealing with the public in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in performing investigations and crime scene processing.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with diverse cultures.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with various disciplines within the criminal justice field.
  • Professional/educational experience in related fields.
