Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS) is the local public agency whose role is to help keep children safe. The agency was formed in July 2002 in response to the merger of state and county child welfare services.

The Nature of Child Abuse and Neglect  
Child abuse and neglect is a symptom of underlying conditions within a family that critically affects a child’s safety and well-being, and often is part of the context of other serious family conditions, such substance abuse, mental health concerns, domestic violence and insufficient resources.

The famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign went blue May 1 -7 in recognition of National Foster Care Awareness Month. Clark County Commissioners and department heads gathered at the sign for the occasion and to raise awareness about the need to care for children and youth in foster care.
