Deputy Fire Chief Fernandez Leary was born and raised in Southern California where he attended Mount San Antonio College and the University of La Verne.
He began his career as a firefighter with the Clark County Fire Department on Feb. 18, 1992. He became a paramedic and shortly thereafter an EMS instructor for the Community College of Southern Nevada (now the College of Southern Nevada). He promoted through the ranks to engineer (1996) and captain (2003), before he was appointed to assistant fire chief in 2004. Chief Leary was promoted to deputy fire chief in 2009 and currently oversees Homeland Security and Operations.
He resides in Las Vegas with his wife of 29 years, Veronica, and their two children, Brianna and Michael.
