Tom Collins  Biography

Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins has been a resident of Clark County virtually all his life. A Western High School graduate, he attended Midwestern and Texas Tech universities in Texas as well as Clark County Community College currently the College of Southern Nevada and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The commissioner also is a PSI gradutate and completed the Nevada Power Company International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Apprentice Program.

Commissioner Collins was sworn into office as County Commissioner for Commission District “B” on Jan. 3, 2005, to serve a four-year term.  He was elected to a second four-year term that began on Jan. 5, 2009.  

In January 2009, Commissioner Collins was chosen by his fellow commissioners to serve in the following capacities:

  • Chairman - Coyote Springs Water Resources General Improvement District
  • Vice Chair - Redevelopment Agency
  • Vice Chair - Board of Trustees of the Big Bend Water District
  • Member - Family & Juvenile Justice Services Policy and Fiscal Affairs Board
  • Member - Las Vegas Convention and Visitors’ Authority
  • Member - Debt Management Commission Member - Las Vegas Events
  • Member - Southern Nevada Water Authority
  • Member - Colorado River Commission  Alternate
  • Member - Southern Nevada District Board of Health Alternate
  • Member - Clean Water Coalition
  • Tom also is a member of:
  • Civilian Military Council
  • Las Vegas Boy Scout Area Council
  • Nevada Contractors Association
  • National Senior Pro Rodeo Association

  • North Las Vegas Planning Commission for 7 years - left as chairman in 1992 to become a state legislator
