Commissioner Tom Collins will host the opening ceremony for a new Fire Station 20 at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at 5865 Judson Avenue, which is north of Lake Mead Boulevard in the Sunrise Manor area.
The new Fire Station 20 replaces a 35-year-old station that was just down the street. The new Station 20 is about 13,000 square feet and has classroom and training space. The old station was approximately 4,300 square feet and in need of extensive repairs.
“In District B we are proud of the dedication and service of our professional firefighters,” Commissioner Collins said. “By moving them into this new station and training facility we are improving the safety and response to our constituents in this area.”
Commissioner Collins represents County District B, which includes the new fire station and most of its primary service area.
Generally speaking, Fire Station 20 serves the Nellis Avenue area from Lake Mead Boulevard to Craig Road including the neighborhoods along Sunrise Mountain. It is equipped with a paramedic fire engine and paramedic rescue unit. The station responded to more than 4,000 emergency calls in 2009.
