For over a century Nevada has been location to hundreds of motion pictures, television programs, video and other media productions. March 17, 1897, marked the first legal championship-boxing match, which was filmed in Carson City, making it the first motion picture to be made in the state. It’s been a colorful panorama from our original black and white feature to current feature films, television, and commercial programs.
The inclusion and encouragement of filming in Nevada is a natural extension of our community’s international renown as the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” and an important component of the economic growth and diversification of Southern Nevada. While filming in the Las Vegas Valley affords boundless promotional opportunities for our region, it also brings direct revenue enhancements, business and job opportunities to our community.
Clark County works diligently to assist the film industry by making the film permit process convenient and easy. In the past, potential filmmakers had to visit a variety of departments and complete mountains of paperwork. To alleviate these logistical headaches, streamline the permit process and facilitate communication, the Clark County Board of Commissioners and the Department of Business License created a “One-Stop Shop” for film permits. We work closely with all jurisdictions including the fire departments, state agencies, public works, transportation, and law enforcement agencies as well as other related agencies, to institute this program. Business License works closely with the Nevada Film Office to further streamline the process, and continue in the development of Nevada as an ideal film location.
