DSD GANGS & SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS ADVISORY

GREEN DOT MONEY PAKS AND GOOGLE VOICE SCAMS

In recent weeks, DGSIU has received complaints about scams involving Green Dot Money Paks and Google Voice.  Our initial investigation has shown that various members of the public are being targeted by solicitors claiming to be high ranking members of the Clark County Detention Center.  These solicitors appear to be using names of inmates that are being held in the Clark County Detention Center. These callers sound “official” in their attempt to solicit “bail” for the inmate in custody.  If you receive a call of this nature, please attempt to gather as much information as possible from the person calling, so that you can accurately relay this information to the police.  Immediately contact your local Police Department and report this call.  The general public can also verify if persons are housed in the Clark County Detention Center by using the official detention center website:  http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/depts/ccdc/pages/inmatesearch.aspx.   The Clark County Detention Center will never telephonically solicit funds for bail.
