2015 Municipal Elections

In 2015, the only city that will have a Municipal General Election is BOULDER CITY. Pertinent dates are below.

Municipal Elections are in odd-numbered years. All Municipal Elections (Primary and General) are NONPARTISAN. Voters registered in unincorporated areas of Clark County may NOT participate in Municipal Elections, i.e., only voters registered within the boundaries of incorporated cities (Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas), except Mesquite. Mesquite will consolidate their municipal election with the 2016 Federal/State Election and will not have a municipal election in 2015. Mail/Absentee Ballot Request Deadline: Last day for the City Clerk of Boulder City or the Election Department to RECEIVE WRITTEN mail ballot requests from Boulder City registered voters.

 

2016 Federal/State Elections
Federal/State Elections are in even-numbered years. In 2009, the Nevada Legislature changed the date of the Federal/State Primary Election to the second Tuesday in June of each even-numbered year. The General Election date remains the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The dates listed below are based on current law and are subject to change depending on the outcome of the current Nevada state legislative session.

Pre-Registration for 2016 Judicial Candidate Filing: Candidates planning to run for judicial office in Clark County in 2016 (except candidates for Justice of the Supreme Court and Nevada Court of Appeals) are encouraged to pre-register their candidacy. By electronically providing filing information before appearing in-person, candidates will significantly reduce the time it takes to file because paperwork will be essentially complete before they arrive. The only additional information which candidates must supply in-person will be the office for which they are filing. To pre-register, login to the Registered Voter Services section on the Clark County Election Department's home page and select "Pre-register for Candidacy" from the menu. Last Day for Candidates for Partisan Offices to Change Affiliation with a Major Party: No person may be a candidate of a major political party for partisan office in 2016 if he or she changed political affiliation to Democrat or Republican on a Voter Registration Application in Nevada or in any other state after December 30, 2015. Presidential caucuses

Pursuant to Nevada law, Nevada does not conduct Primary Elections to select Presidential candidates. Instead, major political parties will hold caucuses in the beginning of 2016 at dates, times, and locations that they will determine. The Clark County Election Department is not involved with these caucuses.

A Primary Election is a preliminary (nominating) election to select, when necessary, Democratic, Republican and nonpartisan candidates who will run in the General Election contests (except candidates for special district offices because they will only appear in the General Election). The direct vote of the people selects the candidates, rather than votes of convention delegates. In State/Federal Elections, Nevada has CLOSED PRIMARY elections.

Candidates who receive the most votes in a General Election are elected to office. You may vote for all offices and questions on the ballot for your precinct, regardless of your party affiliation.
