Michele W. Shafe  Biography

Michele W. Shafe was re-elected Clark County Assessor on November 4, 2014.  Prior to being elected in 2010, she was the Assistant Director of Assessment Services in the Clark County Assessor's Office for over 13 years.  Before joining the Assessor's Office in 1996, Shafe was a Senior Financial Analyst for the Clark County Finance Department, and was with the Finance Department for over nine years.  Shafe holds a Property Tax Appraiser Certificate in both real and personal property from the State of Nevada.

As Assessor, Michele oversees the Administration and assessment of over 750,000 parcels, 25,000 manufactured homes, and 44,000 businesses in Clark County.  In addition, she supervises the processing of over 62,000 Veterans, Surviving Spouses, and Blind Property Tax Exemptions. 

Shafe is active with Toastmasters International as a Distinguished Toastmaster, and is serving as Division C Director for District 33 in 2015-2016.  She has been active with the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, having served for eight years on the Board of Directors, four years as Executive Vice President.  Shafe is also active with the Junior League of Las Vegas serving on their Sustainer Board of Directors as Holiday Coffee Co-chair and member of the Bear Committee.  Shafe is a graduate of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Las Vegas Class of 2001.

Professional affiliations include the International Association of Assessing Officers, American Society for Public Administration, Nevada Government Finance Officers Association, and the Nevada Assessors' Association. 

Shafe is a longtime Las Vegan who graduated from Chaparral High School.  She went on to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees.

  • Speaking to groups and organizations about Assessor services and programs for which they may qualify.
  • Participating in Customer Service activities at shopping malls, the County Fair, senior housing complexes and other functions throughout the year to provide information on the Assessor's Office services.
  • Soliciting public comment to maintain high quality service.


  • 2009 - The Assessor and Recorder formed a collaborative partnership and they are the 2009 recipients of two national awards (NACo and NACRC) for Best Practices in implementing the Q-Matic queue management system.
  • 2010 - Finalist for the Nevada Taxpayer's Association Cashman Good Government Award for Q-Matic
