Free Child Car Seat Safety Event Held

Las Vegas, NV, January 16, 2013 — Kohl’s Cares 4U at Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC will begin the third anniversary of its partnership by announcing a $140,000 grant for childhood injury prevention outreach.  Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC is the exclusive hospital partner in Nevada for Kohls Cares.

On Friday, January 18th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC will be holding a free child car seat safety event.  Before the event begins, at 11:00, Kohl’s Cares will announce this year’s grant of $139,671 to continue keeping children safe.   During the event, parents can bring their cars in for a free installation of their child’s car seat.  Limited quantities of car seats will also be available for parents who are not able to afford the appropriate seat for their child.

Kohl’s Cares 4U at Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC hosts several childhood prevention events throughout the year, including a bicycle safety rodeo, water safety event and child car seat installations.

“Through this generous donation from Kohl’s Cares, our Children’s Hospital of Nevada team can be out in the community educating parents on important water safety tips while providing them with free life jackets, or hosting a bicycle rodeo with a helmet giveaway, or events such as Fridays, where a certified car seat expert will double check that a child’s safe is appropriate and installed correctly,” said Dr. Meena Vohra, Medical Director of Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC.  “These events are incredibly important to help keep children safe before they get to our doors.”

Since 2011, Kohl’s has donated more than $305,000 to Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC.

Kohl's commitment to Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $180 million dollars through this merchandise program. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares® features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,100 young volunteers with a total of $410,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 500,000 associates have donated more than 1.6 million hours of their time since 2001 and Kohl’s has donated more than $47 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations.
