Local Officials to Participate in Cyber Security Exercise

Local officials are participating in a community cyber-security tabletop exercise on Thursday, June 21, at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

The training is expected to include 100 leadership participants from federal, state and local government as well as private sector partners, and is designed to enhance cyber security awareness and collaboration throughout the community.

The full-day exercise is not open to the public. However, media interested in covering the event can obtain interviews with participants during scheduled breaks from 11:45 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. or at 3 p.m. following the exercise. The media room will be in Salon A of the convention center. Media outlets also can obtain B-roll from the morning session upon request.

The tabletop is part of a 14-month Homeland Security program that Clark and Washoe counties were selected to participate in with support from the Governor’s Office and state Homeland Security Division. County participants on Thursday include Clark County Assessor Michele Shafe and Clark County Recorder Debbie Conway.

“This event is designed to enhance community leaders’ understanding of cyber security so organizations are better able to address any threats that may arise.” said Laura Fucci, the County’s Chief Information Officer. “The tabletop exercise will encourage a discussion about cyber security threats, policies, procedures and incident responses to determine where collaboration can occur.”

The cyber security program is being administered by the University of Texas’ Center for Infrastructure Assurance Security. Nevada is only one of two states selected to receive the grant-funded training this year.

Media Note: Please contact Clark County Public Information Officer Stacey Welling at (702) 249-3823 by 10 a.m.  on June 21 to confirm your news outlet’s interest in obtaining interviews about this event during the media availability opportunities.                                                                                                                                                               ####
