Specialty Summer Camps Offered at Whitney Center 

       Whitney Recreation Center will host a series of specialty camps this summer for ages 6 to 17. The camps, which range from sports to leadership, are meant to appeal to specific audiences and give youth a concentrated experience in one interest. Camps range from $55 to $95 and last for one week. All camps take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., except Football Conditioning camp, which will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. and take place at Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave., near Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway. The deadline for registration for each camp is 5 p.m. the Wednesday before each start date.  

       Basketball camp, which runs from June 10-14 for ages 13 to 17 and July 22-26 for ages 8 to 12, will introduce basic basketball skills while building fundamentals and conditioning and providing game play experience. Cost is $85 per camp.   Dance camp will run from June 17-21 and July 29-Aug. 2 for ages 6 to 17. The two camps will include many genres of dance including hip hop, line dance, modern and more. Cost is $90 per camp.  

       Leadership camp, offered from July 8-12 for ages 8 to 12 and Aug. 12-16 for ages 13 to 17, will teach communication skills, how to make informed decisions, solve problems, team building and social skills. Cost is $95 per camp.  

       The Fun and Games camp will run from July 1-3 for ages 6 to 12 and from July 15-19 and Aug. 19-23 for ages 8 to 13. The camps will consist of obstacles courses, bounce houses and arts and crafts. Participants in the two full-week camps will also have the opportunity to take a field trip to Wet n’ Wild. Cost is $55 for the July 1-3 camp and $75 for each of the full-week camps. The field trip is an extra $25.  

       Cheer camp will teach youth the motions, leaps, moves, voice projection, basic stunts and vocabulary it takes to be a cheerleader. Future cheerleaders ages 8 to 12 can attend camp June 24-28 or Aug. 5-9, and those ages 11 to 16 can attend July 22-26. Cost is $85 per camp.  

       Football Conditioning camp will prepare players ages 13 to 17 for the upcoming football season with two hours of conditioning and a one-month membership to the fitness room and indoor gym at Whitney Recreation Center. Cost is $80 per camp.  

       An open recreation program for ages 6 to 17 is available at the center following each camp day from 3 to 5:45 p.m., during which leaders will conduct games and children will be able to log computer and gym play time and more. Breakfast and/or lunch is provided during all camps.
