Basketball Camp, Teams Open to Elementary Ages

Elementary school-aged children whose goals are to play on their middle school basketball team can get an early start and participate in the Just for Fun Developmental Basketball Program at Cambridge Recreation Center. Registration takes place Monday, Jan. 23 through Saturday, Feb. 4 at the center located at 3930 Cambridge St., off Flamingo Road, just west of Maryland Parkway. To participate, players attend Challenge Camp from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 and 13. Players will be divided into two age divisions – second- and third-grade players and fourth- and fifth-grade players – and practices will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday, beginning Feb. 20 through March 5.

Additional information about the team schedule, uniforms and additional practice times will be discussed at a parents’ meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at which time parents must present proof of their child’s current grade level. A minimum of 10 players is needed to fill a team. Registration is $40 per player. All camps, practices and games will be held at Cambridge Recreation Center.

Although schedules are yet to be set, the first game is scheduled to tip off on Saturday, March 10.

Volunteer coaches are needed for this program. All coaches must pass a Clark County Parks and Recreation background check.
