Clark County Fire Department Launches Facebook & Twitter Sites 

       Those interested in learning more about the Clark County Fire Department, its activities and public safety can now follow it on Facebook and Twitter.  

       “More than half of all Americans are on Facebook. Twitter is also very popular,” said Fire Chief Bertral Washington. “These are important tools for reaching out to and engaging our community about fire and life safety education, as well as real-time fire dangers and other public safety risks. We also will use these tools to keep residents informed about community events like our fire station open houses and other matters.”  

       Those interested in following the department on Facebook can find it at www.facebook.com/ClarkCountyFireDept. It is on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/ClarkCountyFD.  

       Clark County has more than 30 social media sites on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace and LinkedIn. Those who wish to find these sites can find a directory of them on the County website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov using the key words “social media.”  

       The Clark County Fire Department is the largest in the state and is responsible for protecting the famed Las Vegas Strip, the largest part of the Las Vegas Valley (293 square miles) and a County the size of New Jersey at 7,910 square miles. Its purview also covers the resort townships of Laughlin, Primm and Jean. The department has 29 full-time fire stations and 13 volunteer stations, responding to 124,554 incidents in 2010 – 3,454 fires, 104,882 medical calls and 16,218 other calls, including false alarms and mutual aid responses in other jurisdictions. Some 428 fire investigations were conducted in 2010, and there were two civilian fire fatalities, 74 injuries, and five fatal drownings. Fire losses totaled $17.9 million. The department also conducted numerous inspections in support of new construction, new business licensing and other building safety requirements. In addition, the Fire Department maintains one of only 28 urban search and rescue teams in the country and provides fire and rescue services to the nation’s eighth-busiest airport.
