Snow Shoe Hike Makes Mt. Charleston a Winter Wonderland

Winter can become a wonderland during the third annual overnight show shoe hike at Camp Lee Canyon Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12. Families, couples, single adults or seniors can spend the night in the rustic heated cabins of Camp Lee Canyon, sit by the fire and hike the Bristlecone Trail. Cost is $15 per person. Space is limited. Registration can be paid at the Mountain Crest Recreation Center, 4701 N. Durango Drive, or online at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/parks.

Those who don’t have snowshoes have the opportunity to receive a free rental from REI as long as they are one of the first 20 participants to register. Those who don’t feel like hiking can bask in the firelight or play cards in the recreation hall. A pancake breakfast will be provided on Sunday morning, but otherwise, participants are responsible for their own food, beverages and bedding as well as transportation to Camp Lee Canyon, located 45 minutes northwest of Las Vegas on U.S. Interstate 95. Anyone younger than age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Those interested can call Mountain Crest Recreation Center at (702) 455-1905. Clark County Parks and Recreation also can be found on social networking sites, Twitter and Facebook.
