Cycle art happening takes place Saturday, April 16, during the Clark County Children's Festival

Nova May and Joel Spencer's "Spin," an interactive exhibit, will be on view from Saturday, April 16 through Friday, April 23, 2016. The cycle art happening takes place Saturday, April 16, during the Clark County Children's Festival at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, 10 AM to 3 PM in the Winchester Gallery.

May is the artist who created the "Love Locket" sculpture in front of Container Park "Spin" is an interactive exhibit exploring the possibilities of sound, using pedal power and modular synthesizers. Participants will enter the exhibit and pedal the bicycles, which will power motors that, through an inverter, run modular synthesizers and speakers. The exhibit will feature six bikes of varying sizes to accommodate people of all ages. Each bike will power a synthesizer that will produce an endless variety of sounds. The synthesizers will be attached to the front of each bike, allowing participants to manipulate the type of sound with their hands, while powering the installation with their feet. The artist duo proclaims, "When all the bikes are driven together, the result will be a human powered electronic sinfonietta."

The exhibit also boasts a 40' bike sculpture and 8 information displays that discuss the installation.

"Spin" is an interactive exhibit that encourages not only sheer play with music and bikes, but also encourages connecting with other participants in the exhibit. The formation of the bikes makes eye contact a fundamental component of the installation. May and Spencer explain, "We also want to encourage children to think about energy in tangible terms and inspire a future engineer to imagine sustainable sources of energy."

Nova May and Joel Spencer own and curate 222 Space, a "Micro Gallery" inside The Arts Factory in downtown Las Vegas, specializing in immersive art installations and interactive art.
