The Winchester Headliners Youth Theatre Program is for children and teens aged 7-17*. Participants are trained in the skills of: Acting, Improvisation, Singing, Audition Techniques, Theater Staging, Dance, Scene Study, Theatre Make-up, Costumes, Prop Building, Set Building, and Stage Management.
Participants learn about the collaborative process of creating theatre through hands-on experience back-stage and on-stage. Participants work as an ensemble to prepare and perform a main-stage theater production each session - this gives them a taste of what goes into creating a professional stage show. Over the years the Winchester Headliners have performed a variety of styles of theatrical performances including: “Peter Pan,” “Charlotte’s Web,” “James and the Giant Peach”, “Annie” and “The Lion King. The most recent production was the “Brothers Grimm Spectacular-a-thon.” Our 2018 Spring Session will feature a production of “Mr. Toads Wild Adventure” The Winchester Headliners program is facilitated by Adam Neri and Anna Allred.
Mr. Toad’s Wild Adventure
J. Thaddeus Toad, owner of Toad Hall, is prone to fads such as the newfangled motor car! His desire for the very latest lands him in much trouble with the wrong crowd. It is up to his friends; Mole, Rat and Badger to save him-from himself!
Performances are scheduled for April 5-7, 2018.
Adam Neri (Director) brings over a decade of acting and directing experience to the Winchester Headliners Youth Theatre Program. He began the program with nine participants–it has now grown to nearly 50! Adam plans and teaches Winchester’s theatre arts classes in addition to producing and directing three productions each year. His curriculum gives participants an inviting, fun-filled learning experience with an emphasis on teamwork and good citizenship. Adam thoughtfully chooses each session’s production to ensure that both beginner and experienced participants are inspired to learn something new.
In addition to his work at Winchester, Adam has coached improvisation throughout the Clark County School District for nearly 15 years. His high school teams have competed in the Utah Shakespeare Festival where they have won and/or placed in second or third place. Adam has also brought four teams to the Jesters Improv finals - three of them won the competition! When Adam is not working, he enjoys traveling with his wife and three daughters.
Anna Allred (Assistant Director) has been teaching theatre arts, improvisation and comedy for 15 years. Her work with the Winchester Headliners Youth Theatre Program includes teaching speech, creative movement, prop building, set building and stage makeup. Anna’s goals for the participants of the Winchester Headliners Program go beyond the confines of the stage. She not only wants to improve the participants acting skills - she wants to help the students become confident, compassionate members of society.
When Anna is not here at Winchester Cultural Center she is working at the Clark County Library District. Anna is an event planner and training facilitator for the Library’s employees and customers. Anna is a native of Las Vegas!
