Together with local poet Emilee Wirshing, Clark County Poet Laureate Heather Lang-Cassera will lead a zine-making workshop on Tuesday, April 21st, at 6 PM at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center.
"Zines are DIY booklets, little works of art," explains Lang-Cassera. "They are homemade publications, and although there are no rules, per say, they are often created by folding one piece of paper into multiple panels."
Community members are welcome to bring a poem they have written, a few lines they love, their favorite magazine scraps, or just themselves to the Create-a-Zine Poetry Workshop event. Prompts will be available for folks who are new to poetry, and all supplies will be provided. Everyone will take home their own brand-new zine.
"Making zines can be fun, and it can be cathartic," says Lang-Cassera. "Creating a zine can also be a great revision tool, helping us look at a draft of writing in a new light. It's a wonderful activity for writers and artists of all levels."
Children, teens, and adults who enjoy getting creative are invited to attend. This Create-a-Zine Poetry Workshop is free and open to the public.
If possible, participants are encouraged to RSVP via email to the Clark County Poet Laureate at email@example.com, but they may simply attend, as well. The Winchester Dondero Cultural Center is located at 3130 McLeod Drive, just north of Desert Inn Road in Las Vegas.
