Clark County to Celebrate Re-Opening of McCarran Marketplace Park on Sept. 27

Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson will be joined by the Las Vegas Light's FC Soccer players, Congresswoman Dina Titus' Office, and the Del Sol and Western high school's varsity girls' soccer teams to celebrate the dedication and grand re-opening of McCarran Marketplace Park at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Located at 5800 Surrey Street along the south side of Russell Road at Surrey Avenue, the newly restored sports fields will now support soccer, lacrosse and football games. McCarran Marketplace opened in 2005 and quickly became one of the most popular and coveted field spaces for soccer leagues across Clark County.

Following 10 years of tremendous wear and tear, the fields became unsafe and were closed until funding became available to replace the turf. Now, after almost three years of being offline, the fields will reopen with a new state-of-the-art Coolplay System, which is a new technology that includes proven long-term safety and performance characteristics that exceed the industry standards for player safety.   The $1.5 million turf replacement was approved by the Clark County Commission last fall as part of the Fiscal Year 2018 parks capital improvement projects budget.

"We are excited to announce the grand re-opening of McCarran Marketplace multi-purpose fields," said Commissioner Jim Gibson, whose Commission District G includes the fields.  "Both youth and adult soccer leagues have been awaiting the re-opening of these fields, and we know they will be popular for football and lacrosse leagues as well."

The Las Vegas Lights FC players will help rededicate the fields during a 4:30 p.m. ceremony. At 5:30 pm, some of the professional soccer players will be offering a skills clinic to anyone that wants to participate.  The Del Sol Varsity Girls will then square off with Western High at 6 p.m. on the north fields.
