Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly and several community partners will host a back-to-school fair for 1,000 local students from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Pearson Community Center at 1625 W. Carey Ave.
The fair is being co-sponsored by Vice Chairman Weekly and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Joshua House and M Con, and is being organized by the staff at the Pearson Center.
The event is free and open to any school-aged youth in Clark County. Anyone planning on attending the event is encouraged to arrive early as the school supplies, including backpacks, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
"With school beginning next week here, too many families are scrambling to find the time and money for school supplies," Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly said. "I would like to thank our community partners and the staff at the Pearson Center for stepping up to help make back-to-school time a little less stressful for some of our residents."
Last month, Vice Chairman Weekly provided school supplies to another 200 local youth.
This is the 20th consecutive year Vice Chairman Weekly has sponsored back-to-school events to support local families.
