Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly and SafeNest are hosting a donation drive from 9 am to noon Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3925 W. Cheyenne Avenue Suite 407 in North Las Vegas, to collect food, clothes and other items for victims of domestic violence.
"Domestic violence is a crime that harms a whole family and our community," Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly said. "Sometimes victims escape the violence with only the clothes on their back. This donation drive will help us provide those victims with the necessities they need to start a new, violence-free, chapter in their lives."
The donations being sought include non-perishable food, new or gently-used clothes, personal hygiene products, and new or used household appliances.
SafeNest is Nevada's largest and most comprehensive nonprofit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence in Clark County. Since opening in 1977, SafeNest has answered more than 500,000 crisis calls to their 24/7 hotline and sheltered more than 20,000 victims of domestic violence.
If you are a victim of domestic violence or if you suspect someone close to you is a victim, please call SafeNest hotline at (702) 646-4981 or 1-800-486-7782; or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
