Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly will co-host the 20th Annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities Recruitment Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Doolittle Community Center at 1950 N. J St. in downtown Las Vegas.
"A college education is an investment that pays dividends for the rest of your life," Commission Vice Chairman Weekly said. "I encourage all high school juniors and seniors, and their parents, to join me at the college fair to learn more about historically black colleges and universities."
The college fair is free to attend and is being presented by the United College Action Network (U-CAN) in partnership with Commission Vice Chairman Weekly.
Interested high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend with their parents. High school seniors should bring several copies of their high school transcript and other documents such as their ACT or SAT scores (if available), as they will be able to complete college applications and apply for scholarships during the event.
Representatives from more than 40 colleges and universities are expected at the fair including officials from Grambling State University, Hampton University and Spelman College. Representatives from some of the colleges will be able to offer scholarships to qualifying students during the fair.
In addition, recruiters from the U.S. armed services will be at the fair, as will representatives from local institutions including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the College of Southern Nevada, Touro University and Nevada State College. Students planning on attending the college fair may pre-register online at www.gotocollegefairs.com/Nevada. (Pre-registration is not required.)
