Commissioner Lawrence Weekly is joining with UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law, the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and local justice court judges to present the Ninth Annual Community Law Day, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Doolittle Community Center at 1950 J St.
This year Community Law Day will focus of helping people resolve outstanding warrants in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson justice courts. Volunteer lawyers and justice court judges will be on hand to help people prepare court documents, and apply to have their warrants cleared.
"This event is aimed at those people who had relatively minor infractions, such as traffic tickets, turn into warrants, which are now beyond their ability to pay," Commissioner Weekly said. "For someone who is trying to turn their life around, such a warrant can be a significant financial hardship and barrier to employment. This community service will help them resolve their minor legal issues."
The event is free for attendees who pre-registered through the law school. Registration for the event is closed.
