In celebration of Black History Month, Commissioner Lawrence Weekly is hosting a night of culture, entertainment, art and awards Wednesday night, Feb. 13, at the Smith Center.
The event will begin at 6 p.m., doors open at 5:30, in the Reynolds Grand Lobby at the Center at 361 Symphony Park Ave. in downtown Las Vegas.
"On Wednesday, we will be honoring several local organizations and individuals who have made a tremendous difference in our community," Commissioner Weekly said. "As we celebrate Black History Month, it is important to recognize and celebrate those who are having a positive impact on our youth and others in Southern Nevada."
The groups and people expected to be honored include the Save Our Sons, Mastering Mindsets and Gentlemen by Choice mentoring groups, KCEP Teen Talk radio program, West Las Vegas Arts Center Rights of Passage program, Nevada Youth Networks, Marcia Washington and Ken Barnes.
The event is free to attend.
