Counties Currently Accepting Applications for Assembly District 36

Clark, Lincoln and Nye County officials are currently accepting applications from people interested in representing Nevada State Assembly District 36.

Deceased candidate Dennis Hof received the most votes for that office in the recent general election. As Assembly District 36 includes parts of Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties, the commissioners from these three counties will come together next month to select its next Assembly member.

Under state law, qualified applicants must reside in Assembly District 36 and be a member of the same political party as Hof, who was a Republican. Prospective applicants who are unsure if they live in State Assembly District 36 may check the district boundaries on the state legislative website at www.leg.state.nv.us/Division/Research/Districts/Reapp/2011/Final/Assembly/ASM2011_District36.pdf or www.leg.state.nv.us/Division/Research/Districts/Reapp/2011/Final/Assembly/ASM2011_District36_11x17.pdf.

Applications are available at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov, and are due by noon on Nov. 26. Completed applications may be emailed to Katie Walpole at Kathleen.Walpole@ClarkCountyNV.gov, or delivered to the Clark County Manager's Office, 6th floor, Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89155;  the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, 181 N. Main St., Pioche, NV 89043; the Nye County Manager's Office- Pahrump Location, 2100 E. Walt Williams Drive, Suite 100, Pahrump, NV 89048; or the Nye County Manager's Office- Tonopah Location, 101 Radar Road, Tonopah, NV 89049.

The Clark County Commissioners are expected to nominate a candidate for the office during their Dec. 4 regular meeting. Lincoln County Commissioners are expected to nominate a candidate on Dec. 3, and Nye County Commissioners are expected to make their nomination on Dec. 5.

Commissioners from Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties are scheduled to come together on Dec. 7, to select the representative for State Assembly District 36. Under state law, the value of each commissions' votes in this contest are weighted to match the population distribution of each county within the assembly district as of the last U.S. census. In Assembly District 36, about 64 percent of the population resides in Nye County, 34 percent lives in Clark County, and about 4 percent reside in Lincoln County.
