Clark, Lincoln and Nye County officials are currently accepting applications from people interested in representing Nevada State Assembly District 36.
Deceased candidate Dennis Hof received the most votes for that office in the recent general election. As Assembly District 36 includes parts of Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties, the commissioners from these three counties will come together next month to select its next Assembly member.
Under state law, qualified applicants must reside in Assembly District 36 and be a member of the same political party as Hof, who was a Republican. Applications are available at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov, and are due by noon on Nov. 26. The Clark County Commissioners are expected to nominate a candidate for the office during their Dec. 4 regular meeting. Lincoln County Commissioners are expected to nominate a candidate on Dec. 3, and Nye County Commissioners are expected to make their nomination on Dec. 5.
Commissioners from Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties are scheduled to come together on Dec. 7, to select the representative for State Assembly District 36. Under state law, the value of each commissions' votes in this contest are weighted to match the population distribution of each county within the assembly district as of the last U.S. census. In Assembly District 36, about 64 percent of the population resides in Nye County, 34 percent lives in Clark County, and about 4 percent reside in Lincoln County.
