County Roads Projects Expanding Hours

With a significant decrease in traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard and the surrounding area, the County has authorized two major projects to change their working hours so they may work during the day.

"This change will give our contractors more flexibility in their own scheduling, and hopefully allow them to complete these projects on time or sooner," County Public Works Director Denis Cederburg said. "Working daytime hours should result in higher production rates during a shift."

For drivers this means Las Vegas Boulevard between Spring Mountain Road and Sahara Avenue may be reduced to one lane in each direction at all times. Previously, significant lane restrictions were limited to overnight hours. Also, Koval Lane from Tropicana Avenue to Sands Avenue may be reduced to one lane in each direction at all times. Previously, work on Koval was limited to nighttime hours.

There may be additional projects that also change their working hours in the near future.

The project on Las Vegas Boulevard from Spring Mountain to Sahara Avenue includes new pavement, water main line replacement, intersection modifications for improved pedestrian crossing, technology upgrades to traffic signal systems and lighting with Smart poles, and enhancements to median landscaping and LED lighting. The project is scheduled to be complete in summer 2021.

The Koval Lane improvements include repaving and the addition of a third turn lane from Koval Lane northbound to westbound Sands Avenue. This project is expected to be done by the end of June.
