LAS VEGAS – A partnership between the Nevada DMV and the Las Vegas Township Justice Court has won two significant awards from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).
The Justice Court Counter partnership, which enables drivers to pay court fines at the DMV, won the 2018 AAMVA International Award for Customer Convenience over competing entries from motor vehicle agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada.
DMV Director Terri Albertson will accept the award August 23 at AAMVA's 2018 International Conference in Philadelphia. The program won an AAMVA regional award in the same category last month.
"Our partnership with the Justice Court is a win-win for both agencies and, most importantly, for the customers," Albertson said. "The beauty of this project is that it saves everyone's time while keeping unlicensed drivers off the road."
A representative from the Las Vegas Township Justice Court is on duty Monday through Friday in the DMV branch at 8250 W. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. Motorists who need to pay fines and obtain a clearance to reinstate their driver's license may do so at the DMV rather than making a round trip to the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas.
"As a court we aim to maximize access to justice and to better serve the public; this program has allowed us to do both", said Court Administrator Kim Kampling. "We are pleased with its success and look forward to a continued partnership with the DMV."
The court window at the DMV has served more than 2,000 customers since it opened in January, 2017. The Las Vegas Township Justice Court handles only citations issued in the unincorporated areas of the Las Vegas Valley. Motorists with citations issued in other jurisdictions must contact the appropriate court.
The DMV also won an AAMVA award for its "SmogSpotter" promotional videos that encourage motorists to report smoking vehicles. The DMV and Penna Powers, the vendor which produced the 15-second spots, won the Region IV Award for Best Externally-Produced Video. The three videos can be viewed on the DMV's YouTube page at youtube.com/nvdmvpio.
