While the kiddos will get to take some time off from school during the holidays, not all parents are catching the same break. But Clark County Parks and Recreation is prepared to keep the fun alive with several camps and activities.
Six recreation centers will offer Winter Break Day Camps for children ages 6-12. Day camp is $18 per day and parents can register their children at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov or at the individual recreation centers offering day camps.
The camps will take place December 24 through December 28 and again from December 31 through January 4, 2019 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Locations where camps will take place include Helen Meyer Community Center (4525 New Forest Drive, 89147), Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center (1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. 89142), Paradise Recreation Center (4775 S. McLeod, 89121), Parkdale Recreation Center (3200 Ferndale St. 89121), Robert "Bob" E Price Community Center (2050 Bonnie Lane 89156), and Walnut Recreation Center (3057 N. Walnut Rd. 89115).
Day camp is extremely popular and availability in the program fills quickly. Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment in full is required to reserve a spot. CCAP (Las Vegas Urban League) is accepted, but parents must provide a current certificate of benefits designated to specific site the child will be attending. Participants are required to bring a lunch and two snacks that do not need heating or refrigeration.
Parents can also enroll their children ages 3-5 in Tiny Tot Elves Camp taking place at Paradise Recreation Center on December 18 through December 21 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The little elves will spend their days creating arts and crafts and making gifts for family and friends. In order to attend the camp, children must be toilet trained (no pull-ups) and able to perform their own personal hygiene.
You can start your holiday celebrations early with the Clark County Museum's (1830 South Boulder Highway Henderson, NV 89002) Heritage Holidays: Celebrate the Season on December 7 and 8 from 5-8 p.m. Admission is free after 5 p.m. During the event, families can visit the Heritage Street Homes all decorated for the holidays, see Santa and his elves, watch holiday carolers, make crafts with your children, and enjoy some hot cocoa and holiday cookies.
