Poets Explore Las Vegas Community Strength in Aftermath of 1 October

Clark County Poet Laureate Heather Lang-Cassera and other local poets will perform a reading exploring the strength of the Las Vegas community in the aftermath of the 1 October 2017 shooting.

"Through Poetry: Exploring the Strength of Our Community" is the name of the free Saturday, Sept. 21 event to be held at 5 p.m. at The Writer's Block at 519 S. 6th Street, Ste. 100 in downtown Las Vegas. The other local poets who will participate are Jennifer Battisti, Elizabeth Quiñones-Zaldaña and Emilee Wirshing.

"Grief is not linear nor does it have a statute of limitations," said Lang-Cassera. "We here in the Vegas Valley are a community, and we need to continue to show our support. We hope to honor the lost souls and offer a tribute to the strength of the community."

Wirshing agreed, saying, "The Vegas Valley community is more than home. We are people who live in the harshest of climates and find in our families and neighbors an oasis to thrive in our beloved desert."

This project is supported, in part, by the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the state of Nevada.
