Public Invited to 1 October Sunrise Remembrance

The public is invited to a 1 October sunrise remembrance ceremony to honor the lives of the 58 victims who were lost two years ago. The ceremony will be held at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at 7 a.m. Parking and admission are free.

Clark County and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will co-host the event with the Clark County Fire Department and the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center. The speakers are Gov. Steve Sisolak, Sheriff Joe Lombardo, County Commission Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Joe Robbins, the father of Quinton Robbins, one of the 58 who perished on 1 Oct. 2017.

The remembrance will include 58 seconds of silence, a multi-agency honor guard, and music from The Academy Singers from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. The organizers wish to thank Structure Exhibits for donating the use of the LED video wall for displaying pictures of those who perished on 1 October. Also, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is providing free refreshments at those in attendance.

Immediately following the event, the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center will host a wellness event in the adjoining Government Center rotunda. The event will feature organizations and activities dedicated to promoting health and wellness in the community. The hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m..

The remembrance ceremonies will be carried live on Clark County Television and at Facebook.com/ClarkCountyNV and YouTube.com/ClarkCountyNV. Clark County Television is available in the Las Vegas area on Channel 4/1004 on Cox cable and on CenturyLink on Channels 4 and 1004 as well as in Laughlin on Channel 14 via Suddenlink.
