Clark County residents are being warned about fraudulent telephone calls from people falsely claiming to be from the Clark County Building and Fire Prevention Department.
The department was alerted today by a citizen who had obtained a permit for a water heater that she had received such a call. The caller reportedly told the citizen that he was coming over to do an inspection and needed to verify her address, Social Security number and birth date.
The department would never ask for a citizen's Social Security number or birth date when scheduling an inspection. Department employees may call to confirm an address and, if the resident lives in a gated community, what the gate code is.
Anyone receiving a call from a departmental representative can verify the caller's identity by calling Clark County Building and Fire Prevention- Field services at (702) 455-8040 and request the name of their inspector.
If you have become a victim of a crime, please alert the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department non-emergency number at (702) 828-3111 or stop by your nearest substation to fill out a report.
