County Commissioners and representatives from The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation turned the world-famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign blue today to Go True Blue in support of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
"The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation is an important community partner," Commission Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick said. "The foundation supports our police officers in a variety of ways including providing funding for life-saving equipment and advanced, specialized training."
"Today we are calling on local businesses, residents and visitors to join us in support of the Foundation's call to Go True Blue in support of Metro Police," Commissioner Larry Brown said. "This month we will all be showing our support for our local police officers by turning our community blue."
"The Metropolitan Police Department is one of the finest in the nation, policing a vast and diverse area that includes rural ranches, urban neighborhoods and the world famous Las Vegas Strip," Commissioner Jim Gibson said. "We are proud to stand with the Foundation in support of the great men and women who protect and serve all of us, every day."
"The Go True Blue campaign gives us all an opportunity to show our support for local law enforcement," Commissioner Michael Naft said. "We encourage everyone to join us by wearing blue and promoting the effort on social media and in the community."
"We are truly grateful to have residents, tourists, businesses and attractions such as the Welcome to Las Vegas sign show support for our Go True Blue campaign and the brave men and women of LVMPD," said Tom Kovach, executive director of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation. "The Welcome to Las Vegas sign is a part of this city's fabric, history and culture. This partnership is a true testament to the generosity and commitment this city has to law enforcement."
The Go True Blue campaign recognizes and supports officers who, day-in and day-out, work hard to keep the community safe. Additionally, it is a way for community members to show support for Metro Police and the strong partnership that exists and continues to grow between officers, companies and residents of Southern Nevada.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation was established in 1999 as the official fundraising nonprofit that supports the police department. Donations to the LVMPD Foundation help fund Metro Police-related programs that prevent crime, save lives, and make our County a safer place to live, work and play.
