Modify Child Support Order
Changing a Child Support Amount
A change to a court order is called a modification.
Overview:
- Either parent (or legal guardian) may request a modification if there is a 20% change in income or a significant Change in Circumstance.
- The amount of child support ordered may increase or decrease after the review.
- Child support in Nevada is calculated following state guidelines. You can estimate payments using the Nevada Child Support Calculator
- Joint physical custody? Both incomes are considered. Your order may qualify if there has been at least a 20% change in either parent’s gross monthly income.
- Gross Monthly Income (GMI) is your total income before taxes or deductions.
- Both parties can agree to a child support amount, as long as the amount meets the basic needs of the child(ren) and is approved by the court.
- The process can take up to 6 months to complete.
- There is no fee to request a modification.
When to Request a Modification:
