Notice in Regard to 2010 Redistricting
The boundaries of the political districts in Clark County have been changed as a result of “re-districting,” which occurs every 10 years following the U.S. Census. The table below indicates the dates officials elected in 2012 will assume their responsibilities. With the exception of the Clark County Commission Districts, the new districts are currently effective only for 2012 election-related purposes. Officials elected in 2010 or earlier will remain in office until the effective dates listed below.
Nominating (Primary Election) and Electing (General Election)
To facilitate the transition to the new Senate Districts while maintaining the staggering of the terms, officials elected in the November 6, 2012 General Election to Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 15, 18, and 19 will have four-year terms. Additionally, officials elected in the November 4, 2014 General Election to Districts 2, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 20 and 21 will have four-year terms.
Nevada Senators who were elected on November 2, 2010, will represent the newly re-districted geographical area starting November 7, 2012 until the expiration of their terms.
SB 197 of the 2011 legislative session, Sections 6 and 55, changed the composition of the State Board of Education from 10 elected members (by district) to:
- Seven Voting members consisting of:
- Four elected members, one from each U.S. Congressional District (of which there are four), with four-year terms.
- Three appointed members, with initial terms that expire in 2015
- Four appointed non-voting members, with initial terms that expire in 2014.
The terms of all members of the State Board of Education who are incumbent on January 7, 2013, expire on that date. All new terms begin January 8, 2013.
