Overview
Because the major parties have more than one presidential candidate officially running in Nevada, we will have a Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, as part of the nationwide process to choose the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates for the November General Election ballot. Early voting for the PPP will be seven days, from Saturday, January 27, to Friday, February 2. The PPP will generally be run like any other election here except that: (1) Early Voting is only seven days instead of 14, and (2) you may vote only if you are registered as Democratic or Republican and your party has more than one candidate officially running in Nevada.
Only voters who are registered as Democratic or Republican may vote in this election. If you wish to update your political party affiliation, you may do so online or in person when you check in to vote using the same-day registration updates process. New Clark County voters may also register online or in person when they check in to vote using the same-day registration process. Other options for registering to vote or for updating your existing registration are available on our web page titled "Ways to Register to Vote or Update Your Existing Registration."
Per NRS 298.600-720 (added in 2021), the Clark County Election Department will conduct the PPP. Like all elections in Nevada, it will be an all-mail ballot election. In-person voting options will still be available during Early Voting and on Election Day.
Non-Major Party Candidates
Candidates whose party affiliation is anything other than Democratic or Republican cannot participate in the PPP. These candidates will go directly to the General Election ballot. For more information, contact the Secretary of State's office.
Election Day Date
The first Tuesday in February in presidential election years is the date for the PPP. In 2024, it will be February 6.
Early Voting Dates
Early voting for the PPP will start 10 days before Election Day and end the Friday before Election Day. In 2024, PPP early voting will be from January 27 (Saturday) to February 2 (Friday).
Candidate Filing Dates
The candidate filing period begins on Monday, October 2, 2023, and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023. Candidates must file with the Nevada Secretary of State.
Registration Dates
Existing registration time frames and procedures, including those for same-day registration and same-day updates, will apply to the PPP. These dates are in our tentative listing of important dates for 2024.
