Members of the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife are appointed by the Clark County Board of County Commissioners and serve three-year terms. The Board’s primary function is to advise the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners on wildlife management matters, including the establishment of hunting seasons and harvest limits applicable to Clark County. In carrying out this responsibility, Board members gather information from local sportsmen, solicit input from community stakeholders, and facilitate public participation through meetings conducted within the county.

Pursuant to NRS 501.297 through 501.303, the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife reviews wildlife management issues, formulates recommendations, and conveys local perspectives, concerns, and priorities to the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners. These recommendations serve to inform the Commission’s deliberations and support its wildlife management responsibilities. The Advisory Board functions in an advisory capacity and is not responsible for establishing or implementing wildlife management policies or programs. For counties with populations of 700,000 or more, state law provides for an advisory board composed of five to seven members, with the specific number of members determined at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners.

Pursuant to NRS 501.265, the Board of County Commissioners appoints qualified county residents who meet at least one of the following criteria: (a) individuals who hunt, trap, or fish; or (b) individuals engaged in ranching or farming within the county. In addition, the Board of County Commissioners appoints one qualified county resident to represent the interests of the public.

The composition of the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife is intended to promote representation of the county’s diverse population, interests, and perspectives. Board meetings provide a public forum for identifying and discussing wildlife management concerns, bringing community issues forward for consideration, and enabling members of the public to share their views on matters affecting their communities. Through these efforts, the Board supports public engagement and ensures that local perspectives are communicated to the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners as part of the wildlife management decision-making process.

Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife

The board of county commissioners shall appoint qualified persons to the board who are residents of the county and are: (a) Hunters, trappers or anglers; or (b) Engaged in ranching or farming in the county. In addition to the members appointed pursuant to subsection 1, (1) the board of county commissioners shall appoint one qualified person to the board who represents the interests of the general public of the county. (2) the person appointed pursuant to this subsection must be a resident of the county from which he or she is appointed.

Board members are selected with the intent to provide representation from a cross-section of the county, to ensure that all major viewpoints are examined and that any faction or special interest group does not dominate the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife and the meetings facilitate proper identification and presentation of these concerns and provide open forum for the public to voice wildlife-related issues in their community.
