John M. Baynes was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief in January 2023. He is responsible for supervising the fire inspection staff for the Clark County Fire Prevention Bureau.
Chief Baynes moved to Las Vegas Nevada in 2001 and began his career with the Clark County Fire Department in 2005 as a Fire Inspector with the Fire Prevention Bureau where he served for 18 years.
During his tenure, the Chief assisted in coordinating all fire related activities for large scale construction projects and potential community hazards. Notably, he inspected CityCenter, the Encore and LINQ hotels as well as managed fire prevention activities to ensure that fire codes and ordinances were appropriately enforced. Chief Baynes also enjoyed participating at Fire Department Open Houses utilizing the Clark County Fire Safety House to educate the community on emergency preparedness.
Chief Baynes holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University at Albany, Albany New York. He is also a graduate of the Clark County Fire Service Leadership Program and the Clark County Management Academy.
He looks forward to continuing to focus on promoting fire prevention through education, enforcement and engineering to ensure our service delivery model meets the diverse needs of the communities we protect.
