We believe that even through suffering and despair, unity and love can emerge. Music, art, nature, and community bring together opportunities to celebrate life, to remember, and to look forward together.

Our team based our design proposal on a deep engagement process, guided by listening, to the specific guidelines provided by Clark County for the design, and code and zoning requirements. In this process, our main goal has been to authentically honor the lives lost, the families affected, the survivors, the emergency responders, and the countless other lives affected by the tragedy. Our key design objective has been to manifest the journey toward healing in physical space, combining the park and art in a way that holds space for many different experiences. Ongoing Engagement During Design

Engagement and listening are foundational to our approach.
Our approach is centered around authentic stories of individual experiences from the tragic event on October 1, 2017. We have been listening to the community, including the survivors, the citizens of Las Vegas, emergency responders, and the country music community. This ongoing dialogue is the start of a continuous engagement process that will weave a narrative that celebrates the lives of those lost, supports healing, and honors the spirit of #VegasStrong in the Memorial Park through its completion.

This approach stems from our belief that design is most effective when it is imaginative, pragmatic, reflective, and co-created with those most directly affected. Engagement with each audience or individual has a specific goal—from holding space for reflection for families and survivors to keeping stakeholders informed—and requires a unique set of engagement methods with tailored messaging.

Our process is designed to strengthen existing lines of communication while creating new ones by facilitating conversations, developing a common understanding, and building capacity. Ultimately, we want to leave Clark County with stronger, more long-lasting inter-community ties that will help ensure the success of the memorial.

Through this process, our work continues to be guided by the principles identified by 1OMC:
Remembrance, Respect, Honor, Healing, Unity, Peace, Community, and Love.

Beyond regular updates on the design process, our team proposes engagement activities that invite the memorial’s community into the full life of the project—from conceptualization and design, through studio visits at Artist Studio Los Angeles as well as the casting foundries all over the nation. We want to have the community come together for planting days as well as to plan the park’s unveiling and the 10th-year remembrance.

The spirit of this Memorial Park will live on. To whatever extent our project team may continue to bring form to the voices and sentiments of the grieving community, and to guide or support ongoing commemoration of this sacred ground, we will be honored to do so.
