Women of Clark County

Virginia Valentine

1956 -

Virginia Valentine has an impressive tenure in southern Nevada public service, often being the first woman to serve in each of the top leadership roles she has held.

Since 2011, Virginia Valentine has led the Nevada Resort Association, which represents the state’s largest resort casinos. The association is involved in the laws, regulations, and policies that surround gaming and the resort industry. She is the first woman to serve as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nevada Resort Association.

Prior to leading the Nevada Resort Association, Valentine served as Chief Executive Officer for Clark County, the first woman in this role. As Clark County Manager, she carried out the policies established by the Board of County Commissioners. Before her time at Clark County, Valentine was the City Manager for the city of Las Vegas, the first woman to hold this position.

Valentine, a registered civil engineer, led the development of the first master flood control plan for Clark County. She did this while serving as the Chief Engineer and General Manager of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District, becoming the first person to lead the new organization.

Valentine was the first woman to serve on the Nevada Transportation Board, and one of the first female registered professional engineers in Nevada. She was the first woman to serve as President of the State Chapter of the Nevada Society of Professional Engineers and the State Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She was elected to serve on the American Society of Civil Engineers National Board of Directors, one of the first to do so.

She received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and earned a Master of Public Administration.
