About the Exhibition:

Para las Hijas Mayores (for the Eldest Daughters) by Yazmin Garcia explores the responsibilities, expectations, and histories carried by eldest daughters. Drawing from her experience as a first generation Mexican American, Garcia reflects on growing up as the helper, caregiver, protector, and peacekeeper. Through mixed-media paintings rooted in personal and family experiences, she moves through identity, sacrifice, ancestry, grief, motherhood, healing, and community.

Garcia describes each painting as its own story and the exhibition as a complete book. At its center is the realization that healing is not a destination, but a path toward belonging. By looking at what has been inherited and choosing what to carry forward, Para las Hijas Mayores creates space to slow down, reflect, and recognize pieces of ourselves in the experiences of others.

Para las Hijas Mayores is the first exhibition of SOLO SERIES FY27, a Clark County Public Arts program providing four local emerging and under-recognized artists with the opportunity to present solo exhibitions at Pearson Community Center Gallery.

Community Workshop:

Join artist Yazmin Garcia for a free community art workshop inspired by the themes of Para las Hijas Mayores on Thursday, October 8, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

Space is limited. Participation is first come, first served. Participants may register at the Pearson Community Center front desk 15 minutes before the workshop.

Join Clark County Office of Public Arts and Yazmin Garcia for the closing reception of Para las Hijas Mayores on Thursday, October 22, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Meet the artist, experience the exhibition, and celebrate the first exhibition of SOLO SERIES FY27. Free and open to the public.
