Artist Teams - Brent Sommerhauser, Maile Chapman

Originally from south central Kansas, Brent Sommerhauser exhibits his sculpture and drawings nationally and internationally, as in the 2004 Windsor Biennial and recently with Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle, WA.  New Glass Review 26 (published by The Corning Museum of Glass) highlighted his work among 100 innovative works in glass worldwide. After a BS in Psychology and a BFA from Emporia State University, he earned his MFA from The Ohio State University.  He has taught art there, at The Kansas City Art Institute, Pilchuck Glass School and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  He co-taught at the Glass Furnace in Istanbul and chaired the glass program at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies.  Brent received a Cirque du Soleil Community Support Grant for the Visual & Performing Arts and was a recipient of a 2012 Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship Award.

Maile Chapman is the author of the novel Your Presence Is Requested at Suvanto, and her short stories have appeared in A Public Space, Dublin Review, Boston Review, and Best American Fantasy Writing, among others. She has recently returned to Las Vegas after a year at the New York Public Library’s Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, where she worked on a novel about superstition, Alzheimer’s disease, and the challenges of caring for aging parents.  She teaches creative writing and literature at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
