Miguel Rodriguez’s sculpture exhibit, “E’ryday Science,” centers on the wonders and weirdness of science and society. Six large scale sculptures, consisting of stand-alone pieces and installations made up of many small "clones," will be on display at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda Gallery, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, beginning June 3 and continuing through July 26. An artist reception will be held on Preview Thursday, June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. with an artist talk at 6:30 p.m.
The artist’s Neo-Pop style reinvigorates familiar forms by building subtext through color, size and repetition. Scientific themes of human anatomy, evolution and light inspire the exhibit’s iconography; while witty presentations and modifications draw analogies to social issues such as race, civil rights and the use of agricultural biotechnology.
A Las Vegas based sculptor since 2001, Rodriguez was born and raised in Kansas. He earned his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. His recent solo exhibits include “So Sincere” at Trifecta Gallery, Las Vegas, NV; “Plenty of Action, but No Control” at Paragraph Gallery, Kansas City, MO; and “Dead or Alive: You’re Coming with Me” at the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, Las Vegas, NV. His work has also been commissioned by several public and private organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Dream South Beach Hotel in Miami, and Clark County Wetlands Park.
