ADL Nevada (Anti-Defamation League), in partnership with Barrick Gold and Clark County School District’s (CCSD) Equity and Diversity Department, sponsored the annual Imagine a World Without Hate art contest for students in grades kindergarten to twelfth grade who attend a CCSD public or sponsored charter school. In conjunction with CCSD’s Week of Respect, we encouraged students to imagine a world without hate and create artwork that illustrates what this would look like. A world in which bullying does not happen in our schools. A world in which students can be who they are without fear of judgment or being targeted. A world in which all people are accepted. One of the many reasons why this art contest is so important for students in our community to be involved is that they are the future. If they can start envisioning what a world with less or no hate at all looks like then they have the ability to create it in the future.

This year we are pleased to announce that of the hundreds of entries, twelve student winners were selected from Mendoza Elementary School and 100 more were chosen from: Academy of Excellence, Anthony Saville Middle School, Cashman Middle School, and Arbor View High School. The grand prizewinner will be announced at ADL’s Imagine a World without Hate Gala on November 21 at the Paris Hotel. You can view this exhibit from October 16 – November 16, at the Rotunda Gallery space in the Clark County Government Center, 500 S Grand Central Pkwy.

We strive to bring educational resources to our community to help combat bullying and bias at the source. Locally, ADL programming impacts more than 45,000 students, parents, and teachers annually through bullying prevention workshops, anti-bias teacher trainings, and family resources. We host more than 20 parent workshops each school year on bullying signs and symptoms and work directly with schools in times of crisis to help educate and give teachers the tools they need to help students through challenging times and difficult discussions. ADL firmly believes that through education bias, bigotry, and hate can be unlearned, and we can create a safer, happier, and more accepting community for all of us to live in.
