Plantasia, inspired by Mort Garson’s Mother Earth’s Plantasia, an album “for plants… and the people who love them” is an exhibition about just that. The artists in this show present works that speak to their relationships with plants; those of happiness, curiosity, and devotion. The vibrant colors of this exhibition also portray more than the greenery often associated with plant life and show us a more diverse representation in plant diversity.
The juror for this exhibition is Melissa Gonzalez, a landscape contractor and garden designer in her hometown of Las Vegas, NV. She has a focus on creating more diverse landscapes by planting native and drought tolerant plants to increase wildlife habitats. She encourages her clients to tune into nature by observing pollinators in their own sacred gardens. When she is not designing and managing landscape projects, she dedicates time to doing pollinator research to enhance her skills, holds nature journaling workshops and is the host of The Birding Book Club at The Writers Block DT on a quarterly basis. She earned her bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture in the year 2015 and began her own landscape contracting company a year prior to graduation to become the next generation of gardeners influenced by her father’s landscaping business.
