Monday, September 19, 2016 - Thursday, November 10, 2016
500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV
Reception on Friday, Sept 23 from 6-8 pm with artist talk at 6:30 pm
This exhibit of ceramic art is dedicated to ceremonial and memorial vessels. Ten to twelve artworks created by the artist from 2013 to 2016 are on display.
"The concept behind the work and the exhibit is to recognize ceremony and memorials, which are inherent in our daily lives and how they relate to personal development and diverse cultural backgrounds. Both ceremony and memorials have a long history and are traditions rich in various forms throughout all cultures," said Ms. Stark.
The process of creating these vessels was one of reflection and examination and encourages the viewer to ask the question: Why is there significance to "ceremony" and "memorials"?
Robin Stark Bio
Working in clay, Robin Stark creates sculptural forms, which are inspired by vessel shapes, yet deviate from functionality. Recipient of a Master of Fine Arts from The Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of California, Davis, California, Robin currently teaches ceramic arts at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.
Stark's work has been featured in seventeen solo exhibits and over 38 juried national exhibits. She was recently selected to create a public artwork as part of the Clark County "Centered" Project, a series of installations of public art into street medians. She was awarded the Nevada Arts Council (NAC) Artist Fellowship for 2014, a NAC Artist Fellowship Honorable Mention Grant for 2006, and three NAC Jackpot Grant Awards (2016, 2004, 1996). Collaborative community projects include The Whitney Ranch Tile Together Project (Nevada Recreation & Parks Society 2001 Project of the Year) and the Cambridge Recreation Center Mural Project in Las Vegas. Her work has been recognized or reviewed by Ceramics Monthly, Las Vegas City Scenes and Las Vegas Weekly.
