An artist reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16.

Hillary Price simulates the way memories are stored within the folds of the brain through the use of discarded nylons as both installation material and painting surface. The exhibit, entitled "Cerebral Projections," runs from Tuesday, March 25 through Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, just north of Desert Inn Road. A reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16.

Price is enthralled by the way the brain processes memories, its method of storing those memories, fragmented and scattered throughout the gray matter, and the scavenger hunt that occurs each time one needs to be recalled. For the past three years, she has been painting the feathered imagery of memories onto used nylon hosiery as a way to interpret how they may appear as filed within neural tissue. Fractured paintings of people and objects from the artist’s past show through the multiple overlays of translucent material, and create organic, flesh-like symbols of time past.

Using the unique curvature of the Winchester Gallery’s wall, Price transforms the space into an interior corner of her skull. Painted nylon hosiery is stretched and layered across the gallery with the intent of allowing viewers to walk through the artist’s brain.

Hillary Price was born in Tucson, AZ and moved to Las Vegas at the age of two. She attended University of Nevada Las Vegas, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting and drawing. During her studies at the university she interned at Fifth Wall Gallery, and from 2012-2013 she served as the gallery’s co-curator, co-owner and director of marketing. Recently, Price relocated to Duncan, Mississippi to teach first grade through Teach for America. She has shown her artwork previously in multiple Las Vegas group shows.
