Tuesday, May 3rd through Friday, June 24th, 2016
Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 McLeod Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89121
Artist reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6th.
"Framing the West," Rachel Stiff's series of desert inspired landscape paintings and drawings, will be on display from Tuesday, May 3rd through Friday, June 24th, 2016 at Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. An artist reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6th.
Rachel Stiff presents abstract, landscape-inspired paintings and drawings that explore forms suggesting interlacing clouds, sunlight, rocks, and landforms.
The artist brings observations from her frequent excursions out into the Las Vegas desert landscapes back into her studio where, she mentally remodels and reconstructs the natural compositions and environments. Stiff says, "Abstraction enables depiction of the most important properties and forms that are embossed in memory."
Stiff wants the interaction between her paintings and viewer to be an open conversation. The viewer brings what is in their minds and relate to the paintings based on personal experience. The artist's hope is for a "kinetic exchange" between her work and the viewer.
Rachel Stiff has exhibited her work in numerous group shows, most recently in "3 Person Show" L.A. Artcore, Los Angeles, CA, "MAS 7" Santa Monica Art Studios, Santa Monica, CA, "III Many", VAST Space Projects, Las Vegas, NV, "Limited Edition MAS Attack SFO", Studio 17, San Francisco, CA, "E is for Element" Market Inn Gallery, Tucson, AZ.
